Mask Requirement

While on campus, wearing a mask or cloth face covering is required for all students, employees, and visitors. Masks or cloth face coverings help control transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.

  • Masks must be well-fitted, cover both nose and mouth, and include at least two layers of tightly woven fabric.
  • Unacceptable masks include face shields, scarves, neck gaiters, bandanas, mesh masks, and masks with openings or exhalation valves or vents, holes, or visible gaps in the design or material. Visit the Centers for Disease Control Guide to Masks webpage for more information.
  • If you come to campus without a mask, or are wearing an unacceptable mask, NHCC will provide you with a free three-layer disposable mask to wear on campus.

Quarantine and Isolation Guidance

The Minnesota Department of Health (and Minnesota State) have adopted the Centers for Disease Control's new Isolation and Quarantine Recommendations effective January 13, 2022.

If you tested positive for COVID-19:

  • Isolate, regardless of vaccination status

  • Stay home for at least 5 days (the count starts your first day of symptoms)

  • If you don't have symptoms or your symptoms are resolving, and you are fever-free without fever-reducing medication, you can leave your house after 5 days

  • Wear a mask around others for an additional 5 days

  • Before returning to campus, you need to evaluate your symptoms using the Centers for Disease Control's symptom-based strategy. You may return to campus if: 1) You have been fever-free for 24 hours, 2) you have experienced improvement in all symptoms, and 3) it has been at least 5 days since your symptoms began or tested positive.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19:

  • If you are Up To Date with COVID-19 vaccination, meaning you've been boosted, had 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna in the last 5 months, and/or had the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the last 2 months, then take these steps:

  1. You do not need to stay home

  2. Wear a mask for 10 days

  3. Test on day 5, if possible

  4. If you develop symptoms, get tested and stay home

  • If you are Not Up To Date with COVID-19 vaccination, meaning you've had 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine over 5 months ago and are not boosted, had only 1 dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, had the Johnson & Johnson vaccine over 2 months ago, and/or are unvaccinated, then take these steps:

  1. Stay at home for 5 days - quarantine. Wear a mask around others for an additional 5 days.

  2. Test on day 5, if possible.

  3. If you develop symptoms, get tested and stay home.

COVID-19 Student Illness Report (self-report exposure or diagnosis)

Students who have been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19 are encouraged to complete the COVID-19 Illness Report. Students may be contacted by an NHCC response team member for more information and/or to connect them with campus and community resources. Click here to submit the Illness Report.
